96% Outstanding

This is an outstanding work not only in the Fate series but also in other anime series. It is an excellent work that must evaluate most elements from stories to characters, drawing and music with the highest or lowest score. My review will be unnecessary.

2. Synopsis

With the promise of granting any wish, the omnipotent Holy Grail triggered three wars in the past, each too cruel and fierce to leave a victor. In spite of that, the wealthy Einzbern family is confident that the Fourth Holy Grail War will be different; namely, with a vessel of the Holy Grail now in their grasp. Solely for this reason, the much hated “Magus Killer” Kiritsugu Emiya is hired by the Einzberns, with marriage to their only daughter Irisviel as binding contract.

Kiritsugu now stands at the center of a cutthroat game of survival, facing off against six other participants, each armed with an ancient familiar, and fueled by unique desires and ideals. Accompanied by his own familiar, Saber, the notorious mercenary soon finds his greatest opponent in Kirei Kotomine, a priest who seeks salvation from the emptiness within himself in pursuit of Kiritsugu.

Based on the light novel written by Gen Urobuchi, Fate/Zero depicts the events of the Fourth Holy Grail War—10 years prior to Fate/stay night. Witness a battle royale in which no one is guaranteed to survive.

3. Character’s Way of Speaking

Emiya Kiritsugu, the main character of this work, is a man with the nickname of killing the magician. His language is not much different from that used by the average adult male. Listening to his polite adult speech, given his conflict, despair, and complex emotions will help you understand his quiet charm more deeply. However, his voice is low and difficult to hear.

Irisviel von Einzbern is Kiritsugu’s wife. She speaks in a princess tone. Her lines are relatively easy to hear and understand in this anime, which has many characters that are difficult to understand.

Saber is a spirit summoned by Kiritsugu. She is the highest level honorific master who can use simple politeness, respect, and humility. Because she often uses difficult terms and phrases, listening to learning Japanese is difficult to the highest level.

Kotomine Kirei’s language is calm and impressed by an imposing adult man. Like Kiritsugu, it uses very advanced and difficult terms. The content of the conversation with Gilgamesh is particularly difficult. He also has a low voice, so it is difficult to listen.

Gilgamesh’s language is old-fashioned and often uses words that appear in Japanese historical drama. He is the person who uses the most difficult words and terms in this anime. If you can listen to his lines completely, you can think that you have graduated from learning Japanese.

4. Terms and Talking Contents

Many fantasy terms unique to the work appear. Also, most characters often use difficult phrases and difficult terms. Terms that you don’t normally use appear, so even Japanese people don’t know the meaning. Furthermore, servants summoned from the past, in addition to speaking old-fashioned, use the highest level honorifics as well as polite, humble and respected words. Even Japanese people adults feel that servant conversations are difficult, so the difficulty of Japanese in this anime is extremely difficult.

5. Proficiency can Learn Japanese with This Anime

Because of the age of the characters, there are a lot of difficult terms and difficult phrases. Also, the content of the conversation itself is very difficult. In addition, servants also have many old-fashioned phrases. The honorific level is the most difficult, and frequently used terms are frequently used. The worst thing is that work-specific terms also appear. The difficult terms occurrence rate is extremely high, and the level of difficult words is also extremely high. To be honest, I think that learning Japanese through this anime is not a foreigner but a native Japanese. This is because there are some phrases and terms that even native Japanese college students and adults don’t know (some terms I don’t even know)
