67% Great

In contrast to the short episode 1 episode 15 minutes from the previous anime "Tamayura", the 2nd movie "Tamayura: hitotose" is a regular anime episode 1 episode 30 minutes long. Busy modern people will be healed by the time that flows slowly in a very calm daily life in this Anime. Don't think hard and just touch the pure heart of Worldview and Characters.

2. Synopsis

As a little girl, Fuu Sawatari’s father taught her to love photography. They took pictures everywhere they went. But after he passed away, seeing those photographs only served as a reminder of her loss, so she locked them away to be forgotten. Years later, her brother Kou finds their father’s picture album, and as he flips through its pages, the pictures remind Fuu of all the happy memories of her father that she will carry with her forever.

Now, as the shy Fuu enters her first year of high school, she once again takes up her father’s old camera, determined to take wonderful pictures that will bring joy and happiness to others.

3. Character’s Way of Speaking

Sawatari Fuu always says, “xxx なので”. “”xxx なので” is a polite way of saying why. She also usually uses honorific words such as “xxx です” and “xxx ます” in her lines, but when she tells the audience about her narration and feelings, she uses “xxx だ” and “xxx である” tones. Because she speaks politely, she is a character I recommend for both listening and emulating Japanese.

anawa Kaoru speaks in a dependable older sister’s tone: “xxx の” and “xxx ぞ”. She also uses a joked tone of expression, “xxx したのだよ”. She is a character that I would like to recommend emulating to female Japanese learners who are confident that they are solid.

“xxx よ” Sakurada Maon says in the tone of a quiet girl. He is a man of few words and often whistles instead of words.

Yakusa Chimo speaks to customers in simple honorific expressions such as “です” and “ます” at the end. She talks to Kaede and others in the gentle female tone of “xxx ね”. She sometimes speaks in Hiroshima dialect. If you are an Intermediate learner of Japanese, you should try to distinguish between honorific language, standard language and dialects.

Dougou Kazutarou often speaks in assertive or imperative tones, such as “xxx ぞ” or “xxx しろ”. Also, he sometimes makes fun of people by making funny jokes. Even if you can’t understand his funny gag, it doesn’t affect your Japanese learning. Let’s make a splendid pass.

4. Terms and Talking Contents

In this animation, the story advances mainly on daily conversation with family and high school students. Words related to Kaede’s favorite camera also appear in the conversation. Basically, however, there are many terms commonly used in daily life, such as “気遣う” (きづかう, concern), “呼び捨て” (よびすて, allusion) and “実家” (じっか, parents’ house).

5. Beginners can Learn Japanese with This Anime

90% of the conversations at the center of the story are in plain Japanese and there is no slang at all. Since the difficult terms occurrence rate is as low as 2.3 terms/episode, Beginner’s Japanese learners can concentrate on listening practice without worry. I want you to pay attention to the fact that the four main characters use simple honorific expressions toward adults and listen carefully. It is best to use the honorific, humble, and polite words separately, but if you use honorific words at the same level as them, it is enough for Beginner to pass.
