73% Excellent

It's a comedy animation full of geek elements. The higher the geek level of the audience, the more they can enjoy the animation. Every character has a typical otaku element, and the girl's character design and gestures are very cute. There are some parts where the drawing is not stable, but it is not so bad that it interferes with viewing. And both OP and ED songs will satisfy our ears with catchy melodies. Please enjoy the comedy cafe life of a cute girl.

2. Synopsis

Wishing to be independent, 16-year-old Maika Sakuranomiya is desperate to nail down a part-time job so that she can afford to study abroad. Unfortunately, her applications are constantly rejected due to the menacing look she unintentionally makes whenever she smiles, despite her otherwise cheerful disposition.

After yet another failed interview, she chances upon Café Stile, a coffee shop where the servers interact with the customers while roleplaying distinctive characteristics. The Italian store manager, Dino, becomes infatuated with Maika’s cuteness at first sight, and offers her a job as a waitress with a sadistic nature. Coupled with her inherent clumsiness, she successfully manages to serve a pair of masochistic customers in accordance with her new, ruthless persona. Alongside Kaho Minata as the tsundere and Mafuyu Hoshikawa as the younger sister, Maika decides to make the most out of her unique quirk and cements her position in the cafe with merciless cruelty!

3. Character’s Way of Speaking

Sakuranomiya Maika is a very serious character working part-time to fulfill his dream of studying abroad. Maika also speaks Japanese and honorific to his family. She becomes a sadistic character when serving customers in the cafe. In doing so, she uses dirty Japanese, but it is interesting that she speaks in honorific language. Her way of speaking in her daily part is recommended for both listening and emulating Japanese practice. Of course, don’t emulate her way of talking and what she says when serving customers.

Hinata Kaho is a high school girl who loves games and usually has an honest personality. Kaho speaks clearly and is a good character for practicing Japanese listening. She becomes a “Tsundere” character when serving customers and speaks in a typical tsundere tone in the cafe. The typical expressions are “xxx しなさいよ” and “xxx なんだからね”. It should be noted that her way of speaking in her daily part is recommended for practicing Japanese listening.

Hoshikawa Mafuyu, who looks like a child, is a female college student and has a low voice in her daily part, making listening to a little difficult. On the other hand, she becomes a “sister character” when serving customers and becomes a little child’s way of speaking, which makes her listening much easier.

Amano Miu is a very good character for listening practice because she can speak slowly. She is a character that I would like to recommend to female learners of Japanese because she speaks politely, feminine and beautiful. However, the words she uses are often “Weeb terms” so her words are not well understood by the general Japanese. She becomes a “SIS CHARACTER” when serving customers, so you can refer to the way she speaks and behaves in feminine and feminine languages.

Kanzaki Hideri is a man in female attire and the first person is “I…”. Hideri is a good character for Japanese listening practice because it is pronounced clearly. There are also scenes in which he speaks manly, so it is suitable for listening to the distinction between male and female words.

4. Terms and Talking Contents

The theme of this anime is a concept cafe, so there are many people who like anime and games. Therefore, words related to “Otaku” such as “Yuri” “doujinshi” and “Attributes” appear frequently. These terms will not be difficult for people who study Japanese in anime. On the contrary, you can study with more interest. However, please note that there are some words that are not understood by the general Japanese. The terms “ヘタレ” (Hetale) “寝落ち” (ねおち, falling asleep) and “ドS” (どえす) are not used by the general Japanese, but those related to “Otaku” tend to use them a lot. If you want to communicate with Japanese people who like anime, this work is a pretty good teaching material for learning Japanese.

5. Intermediate can Learn Japanese with This Anime

The difficult terms occurrence rate is a little high at 6.2 terms/episode, and most of the terms that appear are related “Otaku”. That makes it easier for people who like anime and games to understand, but for those who don’t, the hurdle is higher. Also, since the way female characters speak changes greatly between the time of serving customers and the time of daily work, listening requires prerequisite knowledge of the “Attributes” character, which is the concept of the work. In general, the Japanese level of comedy anime varies widely, but the Japanese level of this anime is rather high. Therefore, I would like to recommend this anime to intermediate Japanese learners.
